About the Cover Photo

Susan's cover photo has become an internet sensation! This photo has generated a tsunami of interest. Susan and I grew up in the same town of Santa Barbara, CA. Her father was a bit of a Santa Barbara surfing legend. I asked Susan to share the backstory of this photo. Here is what she said:

We were very lucky to grow up in Santa Barbara! My parents, Jim and Liz, shared a deep and lifelong passion for the natural beauty of Santa Barbara County. My father, who took this photograph, captured this beautiful day at Jalama Beach. Dad picked up surfing at age 45 and, as an architect and builder, was famous for taking extended lunch breaks whenever the surf was up. My mother poured her heart into the community, passionately planting trees and supporting the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. They passed their profound love for the outdoors down to me, instilling values for which I am especially grateful. Through their eyes, I learned the vital importance of protecting and preserving our environment, ensuring future generations can cherish it just as they did.
